7 Cloths To Put a Spring In Your Step

We may still be in the midst of winter, but we’re already looking ahead to warmer days. As we all know, the tailoring and fashion world is not one to stand still for long, and for style forecasters and designers alike, summer is just around the corner.

So, whilst we’re still swathed in multiple layers of flannel, corduroy and heavy worsted vestments, we thought we would jump ahead a season to consider those balmy days we’re wishing for. There’s no such thing as being over-prepared when it comes to good dressing, so here are our top seven cloths for spring/summer – tailors and designers, take note:

1. Tropicalair – Coming May 2018

Weight: 300/340g
Composition: 100% Merino wool

The very name of this lightweight collection oozes exoticism and long summer evenings. Originally dating back to the 1960s, the two variations – High Twist and Mock Leno – were designed with warmer climates in mind, and have been relaunched to cater to the resurgent demand for cooler cloths.

High Twist is perfect for suiting, whilst the slightly heavier weight of Mock Leno makes it ideal for tailoring summer jackets and blazers. Both offer unparalleled crease resistance within even the most humid conditions and are available in an array of sophisticated shades and patterns.

2. Equinox

Weight: 285/310g

Composition: 100% cotton

The Equinox collection is available in two weaves – sateen and gabardine – that are perfect for tailoring trousers and jackets. With an array of vibrant colours available, this is the ideal cloth for making a bold style statement and brightening any wardrobe – what says “summer is here” more than a pair of orange trousers?

3. Royal Pageant

Weight: 255g
Composition: 100% wool

This cool Super 110 wool gabardine has impressive crease recovery and with an enviable colour palette on offer, has become a highly sought-after option for warmer weather. Dedicated fashion followers will note that our lilac is a practically perfect match for the colour of the year too – any garment crafted in this is sure to turn heads.
4. Cascade

Weight: 255g
Composition: 50% silk, 50% linen

The epitome of spring/summer sophistication, Cascade’s blend of Irish linen and Italian silk makes it an excellent choice for lightweight jackets and blazers. For effortless elegance, our dark blue herringbone is a sure choice, with its subtly intricate weave promising versatile styling options throughout the summer months.
5. Natural Elements

Weight: 255g
Composition: 100% linen

Launched last year, our Natural Elements collection has become a popular choice for linen lovers. Cool, comfortable and contemporary, this cloth is endlessly versatile when it comes to tailoring – our plain white is a classic, understated option, whilst olive or shergar would be perfect for creating military or safari styles.
6. Lisburn

Weight: 340g
Composition: 100% linen

This is an exciting new range for 2018, encompassing a wide array of cloths in heavier weights than our Natural Elements and Cascade linen ranges. With plain and herringbone options to choose from, Lisburn presents the perfect solution for everyday wear – plus, its heavier weight provides that bit of extra warmth for our unpredictable spring weather!
7. Crommelin

Weight: 330/420g
Composition: 100% linen

Another brand new collection, Crommelin is named in honour of the founding father of the Irish linen trade, and evokes his enduring legacy. Like Lisburn, the heavier nature of this cloth makes it ideal for hand tailoring – creating more structure and drape than lighter linens – whilst the washed finish aids with crease minimisation. The plain weave means that the fabric remains cool to wear despite the increased weight, and with classic hues conjuring up visions of Riviera cruises, we’re certain that Crommelin’s appeal will reach far further than where its roots reside.
