Between 9-12 January, some of the most influential names in menswear descended on Florence for Pitti Immagine Uomo 93 – the most prominent showcase of men’s fashion in the world.
The biannual Italian event is a highlight in the global style calendar, and we went along to get a glimpse of the trends we can expect to see in 2018/19.
Journalists declared the event a “comeback of British elegance” and a “cornucopia of individual expression”, with particular focus on the return of corduroy, the rise of Japanese tailoring, the prevalence of athleisure and the resurgence of classic 1970s style.
It was brilliant to see so many new names receiving recognition for their impressive designs too, particularly a number of rising stars from Japan and South Korea, including Takahiromiyashita The Soloist and Beyond Closet.
The 200-year anniversary of iconic American shirt-maker Brooks Brothers was a true highlight as well, as the brand aptly celebrated two centuries in industry with its first Florentine show.
Whilst in the city, we were also lucky enough to steal some quality time with some of our loyal international customers. Fotton Garments is a line of tailoring boutiques in South Korea that is going from strength to strength, and we greatly enjoyed catching up with the owners over a lovely meal one evening.
We also managed to catch a few moments with world-renowned tailor and designer Edward Sexton, who is pictured below with our London Sales Manager, Amit Karia.
There are few events where you are truly immersed within the world of tailoring and fashion, but this was certainly one of them. It was thrilling to see what we have to look forward to over the next 12 months, and we’re already planning our next visit.
Now that we’re back in England – and back to reality – we’re channelling the Pitti spirit in our preparations for the next few months. Keep an eye out for some exciting news about our impending collection launches…
